No objections to Imee Marcos leading Duterte inquiry
Malacañang, the presidential palace in the Philippines, has downplayed concerns about Senator Imee Marcos leading a Senate inquiry into the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte. Some critics suggested that this could reflect poorly on her brother, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s administration. At a briefing on Thursday, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro addressed these concerns. She stated that the government would not oppose the Senate hearings to demonstrate its commitment to following the law. Castro emphasized that this inquiry is not a "slap" at the government, but could actually be seen differently. Castro also made comments about Senator Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa, whose current status is unclear. She pointed out that being uncommunicative can create the impression that there is something to hide. Imee Marcos previously assured that there are no family conflicts regarding these matters. She confirmed that she maintains a good relationship with her brother, President Bongbong Marcos.
