NOAA's Storm Prediction Center in Oklahoma may close
The Storm Prediction Center, which tracks severe weather, is listed for closure by Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency. This comes amid deadly storms that resulted in over 40 fatalities across multiple states. Despite concerns, a spokesperson from NOAA stated that the lease situation for the center in Norman, Oklahoma, is uncertain. The center had recently issued warnings about severe weather events. Local Representative Tom Cole claims he has intervened to protect the center's lease, but it remains on the DOGE closure list. The facility employs around 500 experts in storm prediction and radar technology.
