Noem visits El Salvador prison for deported criminals
Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem will visit El Salvador next week. She plans to tour the Terrorism Confinement Center, where many deported criminals are held. This visit emphasizes the U.S. government's effort to work with Central American countries to manage crime. Noem's trip will start on March 26. She will tour the prison with El Salvador's Minister of Justice, Héctor Gustavo Villatoro. Noem will also meet with President Nayib Bukele later the same day. During her trip, Noem will also visit Colombia and Mexico. On March 27, she will meet Colombian President Gustavo Petro to discuss organized crime. Finally, on March 28, she will meet with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. Recent videos from El Salvador showed hundreds of illegal migrants being deported and taken to prison. On March 15, 261 illegal aliens were sent back to El Salvador, many of whom had serious criminal records. Bukele stated that these deportations will help strengthen the fight against gangs like MS-13. Noem's visit focuses on a strong stance against illegal immigration and crime. Senior officials from the Trump administration expressed that they want to deter criminal aliens from entering the United States.
