Noida airport land faces illegal construction by farmers
The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) is planning a large-scale operation to remove illegal constructions on land for the Noida Airport's third phase. This move comes as disputes over the land are delaying the project's progress. Many landowners are building structures on the disputed land, hoping to receive compensation for these constructions. Despite having been assured of fair compensation by the authorities, these actions are considered unauthorized. YEIDA will acquire over 2,000 hectares of land across 14 villages for this phase of the airport. Authorities have warned 100 landowners about these illegal activities and obtained a permit to demolish the structures. The demolition drive is expected to begin next week, although it was initially scheduled to start on Thursday. The delay was due to unforeseen circumstances. The project will displace about 9,500 farmers during its third and fourth phases. The city administration has promised them fair compensation at set rates for their land, along with additional payments for any permanent structures. Officials are also taking measures to prevent further illegal construction in the airport zone.
