Noida resumes construction of Chilla elevated road project
Noida has restarted work on a 5.6-kilometer elevated road aimed at reducing traffic jams. The construction is expected to take three years and cost ₹893 crore. On Thursday, officials marked the start of construction from Chilla in Delhi to the Mahamaya flyover in Noida. This new road is designed to make commuting smoother for the many travelers who deal with heavy traffic each day. The project also aims to relieve congestion on the existing Delhi-Noida Link road, particularly during morning and evening rush hours. The road's construction faced delays for over four years due to funding and logistical issues. Recently, the Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation Ltd (UPSBCL) appointed a contractor for the work. The contractor is working with IIT-Delhi to finalize the road's design and has started getting workers and equipment ready. The elevated road will have six lanes and will include five ramps for easier access. These ramps will help drivers move between different sectors and access the Mahamaya flyover. Once completed, the road will connect the Mayur Vihar flyover to the Mahamaya flyover, improving travel for those heading to Greater Noida and nearby areas. The project was first proposed in 2012, but it has faced multiple delays. Although the Delhi government approved it in 2018, work did not begin until January 2019. Challenges, including funding from the public works department and the need to adjust plans due to a gas pipeline, caused further setbacks. Currently, only 13% of the project is finished.
