Noida Sector 117 residents demand park instead of dumpsite
Residents of Sector 117 in Noida are strongly opposing plans to turn a vacant plot into a dumpsite for horticulture waste. A fire at a nearby dumpsite has heightened concerns about health and safety. Many high-rise buildings surround the proposed dumpsite, which would house nearly 100,000 residents. On Tuesday, residents met with Noida Authority officials to request that the site be turned into a park with sports facilities instead. Previous protests include a candle march, highlighting their discontent with the Authority's plans. Sector 117 is currently facing the daily collection of about 100 tractor-trolleys of horticulture waste, previously dumped at a site in Sector 32A. Residents fear that a new dumpsite could pose health risks, especially in case of fire. Community leaders emphasized the need for recreational spaces, calling for a playground for children in the area. Noida Authority CEO Lokesh M has promised to stop dumping in Sector 117 and is working on a new system to handle horticultural waste locally.
