Noida is starting a vaccination campaign against cervical cancer for girls on March 20. This program will focus on administering the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, which protects against strains that cause cervical cancer. Health officials emphasize that the vaccine is most effective when given before girls reach adolescence. Girls aged nine and older will receive the vaccine for free. Parents must give consent before their children can be vaccinated in schools. A public awareness campaign will also be launched to explain the importance of the HPV vaccine. Dr. Renu Agarwal, the chief medical superintendent in Noida, stated that timely vaccination could greatly reduce cervical cancer risks. She highlighted that vaccinating young girls offers lifelong protection against HPV, a leading cause of cervical cancer. The HPV vaccine will be given in two doses, with the second dose administered six months after the first. Dr. DK Gupta, who will oversee the program, assured that the vaccine would be made easily accessible to all eligible girls. Before starting the vaccination program, schools will hold sessions with parents to address any concerns and educate them about the vaccine's benefits. Parents will receive consent forms to ensure a smooth process. Teachers will also be trained to inform students and their families about how the vaccine helps prevent cervical cancer. Dr. Latika Singh Sinsinwar noted that the HPV vaccine is most effective when given to preteens, but it can be administered safely to individuals up to 45 years old. Extensive research supports its effectiveness in reducing HPV-related health issues.
