Non-bailable warrants issued for AAP MLA Mehraj Malik
A local court has issued non-bailable warrants for Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Mehraj Malik. The warrants are part of a defamation case filed by former minister Ghulam Mohammad Saroori. The court, located in Jammu, instructed police to bring Malik to court on May 14. Malik spoke to reporters outside the legislative assembly but chose not to discuss the warrants. Instead, he emphasized his focus on issues affecting the public. He remarked that matters of law will be handled in court while he prioritizes governance. When asked about the seriousness of non-bailable warrants, Malik responded lightly. He expressed confidence that he could handle any potential arrest and would be released on bail. Malik also criticized what he sees as the misuse of the legal system by influential people to target others. He argued that the main concern should be the governance in Jammu and Kashmir. Malik questioned whether the current government is keeping its electoral promises to the people. He also called attention to alleged financial irregularities by a senior official in the horticulture department, urging action from the Anti-Corruption Bureau. In the assembly, Malik passionately raised these issues, highlighting the need for accountability before the official's upcoming retirement.
