Non-functional lights in Noida park raise safety concerns

timesofindia.indiatimes.com

Residents in Sector 50 of Noida are facing challenges during their early morning walks due to non-functional lights in Meghdootam Park. Many walkers, especially senior citizens, are forced to use torches for visibility. This situation raises concerns about possible accidents in the dark areas of the park. Chote Gupta, a regular walker in his 70s, shared his frustration. He mentioned that the lights often do not work and that seniors walk in the park around 4:30 AM, depending on mobile phone torches instead. He urged women to avoid coming to the park for safety reasons. Another resident, Vibha Singh, also expressed her disappointment with the ongoing issue. She loves her morning walks but has had to skip them due to the risky dark patches. She noted that even when complaints are made, the repairs do not last long, leading to a recurring problem. Sanjeev Kumar, the general secretary of the residents' welfare association for nearby Sector 51, has raised the issue on social media. He reported over two dozen faulty streetlights, mostly in block D, to the Noida Authority but said the problem remains unresolved. In response, officials from the Noida Authority promised to address the issue. They have instructed the contracting company to repair the lights in both Meghdootam Park and the surrounding areas as soon as possible.
