Nonprofit in Casa de Oro linked to drug trafficking
Federal officials have accused the Educational Support Network, a nonprofit in Casa de Oro, of being a front for drug trafficking. The organization claimed to help people with addiction, but authorities allege it was actually run by Algernon Legrand Lundy, who has a history of drug offenses. Lundy, 52, was arrested in November and faces charges for possessing methamphetamine and fentanyl with intent to deliver. Recently, U.S. prosecutors filed additional charges against him, including conspiracy to distribute fentanyl and money laundering. Lundy has been in jail since his arrest, and his lawyer has not commented on the case. Investigators observed the Educational Support Center and found no signs of legitimate business activity. They also discovered suspected fentanyl residue at the nonprofit's office. Documents suggest the center, which registered as a nonprofit in 2017, did not receive any reported donations. Authorities raided five other locations connected to Lundy, seizing nearly 8 pounds of fentanyl, more than $22,000 in cash, and equipment used for drug packaging. Because of his past conviction for distributing crack cocaine, Lundy could face a tougher sentence for his current charges.
