Norman and Brown are Athletes of the Week

Sydnee Norman from Alcorn Central and Andrew Brown from Tupelo have been named the Daily Journal Athletes of the Week. Norman is a softball pitcher. Recently, she had a strong performance, giving up only two earned runs on 14 hits. She also struck out 29 batters and walked four in 18 and a third innings pitched. In a Twitter poll, she received 42.3% of the votes to win the Female Athlete of the Week. Other nominees included Victoria Fields from Kossuth and Bailey Payne from Nettleton. Andrew Brown is a sophomore on the track and field team. He recently set a new indoor state record in the mile while competing in Boston. Brown's time of 4:15.60 beat his previous record by four seconds. He garnered 49% of the votes in the Male Athlete of the Week poll, surpassing Jordan Evers from Saltillo and Ryan Tate from Thrasher.
