An 85-year-old farmer in Kaiwaka, Northland, is facing serious animal cruelty charges. Brian Trevor Greenway has been accused of several animal welfare violations. The New Zealand Ministry for Primary Industries charged him on January 28 with eight offences under the Animal Welfare Act. These charges include failing to provide treatment for animals with injuries and allowing them to suffer. Specific allegations involve not treating two animals with wire injuries, and two bulls with ingrown horns. There are also claims that he did not prevent cows from being forcefully mated by bulls. Additionally, Greenway is accused of failing to care for a steer with a serious health issue, known as bottle jaw. Furthermore, he allegedly did not provide enough food to over ten cattle. These incidents are said to have occurred between September 2023 and May 2024.
