Norwin baseball seeks improved playoff results this season

Norwin's baseball team is looking to make a strong return to the playoffs this season. Last year, they made it to the WPIAL Class 6A playoffs but lost in the first round to North Allegheny. This loss has motivated them throughout the year. The Knights have almost all their starters back, with six of the eight returning players being seniors. This is encouraging for coach Craig Spisak, who is in his third year with the team. He previously had a successful stint at Yough High School. Key players include left-handed pitcher Ethen Culbertson, right-handed pitcher Matt Rivera, and first baseman Brayden Wardzinski. Coach Spisak praised the team’s chemistry, saying, “We have a tight-knit team.” Other returning players include Ben Geissler, Jake Sincak, Nate Silberman, Matt O’Neil, and Tristyn Tavares. Silberman had a standout season last year, hitting .405. Newcomers like Jake Knight, Trevor Vitsas, Caden Sivrich, and others are expected to add strength to the lineup. However, outfielder Jackson Huss will not play this season due to shoulder injuries from football and will instead run track. Norwin believes their solid pitching will keep them competitive this season. Spisak emphasized the need for consistent pitching, strong defense, and timely hitting for success. They are hopeful for a deep playoff run this year.
