Notre Dame Cathedral to reopen this weekend with organist ceremony
Notre Dame Cathedral will reopen to the public this weekend for the first time since a devastating fire in 2019. The historic structure suffered extensive damage, but its 15th-century pipe organ survived with minimal harm. Olivier Latry, a renowned organist and one of Notre Dame's titular organists since 1985, will officially reawaken the organ's 8,000 pipes during a ceremony on December 7. The organ has undergone extensive restoration and tuning to adapt to the cathedral's new acoustics. The first public mass will take place on December 8, marking a significant moment for the cathedral and its visitors. Notable attendees, including President-elect Donald Trump and First Lady Jill Biden, are expected to be present.
