Nottingham Forest's owner predicts Champions League victory
Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has made an ambitious prediction about his team's chances in the Champions League next season. Currently, Forest is surprising many by sitting third in the Premier League, ahead of big clubs like Chelsea and Manchester City. This would mark their first Champions League qualification in nearly 30 years. Marinakis is also optimistic about his other club, Olympiacos. They made history last season by winning the Europa Conference League, becoming the first Greek team to win a European trophy. Olympiacos is currently leading the Greek Super League and aims to secure their title to advance to the Champions League league phase. The 57-year-old shipping magnate believes that one of his clubs will win the Champions League soon. In a recent documentary about Olympiacos, he expressed confidence that with both teams competing, one club is "sure to win it." However, neither Forest nor Olympiacos has officially qualified yet. Nottingham Forest still has nine important Premier League matches left, including games against Manchester United, Aston Villa, and Chelsea. They are also competing in the FA Cup, facing Brighton in the quarter-finals next week. On the other hand, Olympiacos is seven points clear in their league and is set to face tough rivals in title play-offs, including AEK Athens, PAOK, and Panathinaikos. They also have the opportunity to win a double by competing in the Greek Cup final. Since both clubs are owned by Marinakis, they must comply with UEFA rules preventing clubs with the same ownership from playing in the same European competition. To manage this, steps have been taken to change the club structure, including changes in leadership at Nottingham Forest.
