NTPC finds Noida's treated water financially unfeasible

timesofindia.indiatimes.com

The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has told the National Green Tribunal (NGT) that using treated water from Noida's sewage treatment plant is not feasible. A recent feasibility study found the project would cost Rs 1,398 crore to start and Rs 129 crore annually to operate. The NGT had previously directed NTPC to assess the viability of using treated sewage water, following a petition from an environmental activist in 2018. Currently, Noida produces 260 million liters of treated water daily, but only 68 million liters are utilized. NTPC's report stated that while using treated water is theoretically possible, it faces significant financial and technical challenges. Issues include high infrastructure costs, compatibility with existing systems, and potential quality concerns that could impact operations.
