Nursing aide sentenced for assaulting elderly resident
A woman from South Greensburg has received a probation sentence for assaulting an elderly nursing home resident in 2022. Donna Marie Flock, 57, pleaded no contest to attacking a resident at Newhaven Court at Lindwood. The incident occurred on June 6, 2022, when Flock, a nurse’s aide, punched an 84-year-old woman in the abdomen. Flock claimed she acted in response to a resident who was being "combative" while she was trying to reposition her in bed. A registered nurse who saw the assault reported it to the authorities. The victim, however, did not recall the event and was not injured. On Wednesday, the Westmoreland County Common Pleas Court sentenced Flock to up to two years of probation. She must also complete anger management classes. During her probation, she cannot work with patients, but her probation may end after one year. The victim’s son expressed strong feelings during the court hearing. Tim Cawoski asked the judge to prevent Flock from working in any healthcare facility in the future. He emphasized that his mother, who dedicated her life to nursing, would have been outraged by the attack.
