NYPD arrests protesters supporting deported Columbia student
The NYPD arrested at least a dozen protesters supporting Mahmoud Khalil in Manhattan on Tuesday. The arrests occurred after demonstrators blocked a street despite police warnings to clear the area. Protesters clashed with officers, with some using taunts during the confrontation. Police had warned that remaining in the roadway would lead to disorderly conduct charges. Khalil, a former Columbia University student, was detained by federal authorities on Saturday. He faces deportation for allegedly promoting "pro-Hamas" views, according to the White House.
