A man in Oakland has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for causing a crash that killed two people while trying to escape from the police. Ramon Sanchez, 40, pleaded no contest to charges of vehicular manslaughter for the deaths of Jacqueline Elliott and Cleveland Allen. The crash occurred on March 17, 2022, when police tried to stop Sanchez because of an outstanding warrant. He fled at speeds between 70 and 90 miles per hour. Police did not chase him, but moments later he ran a stop sign and crashed into another car. Sanchez was transferred to North Kern State Prison on January 27. Although he was sentenced to 10 years, he can reduce his sentence by half for good behavior. He has already received credit for more than five years of time served since his arrest in 2022. Sanchez received 10-year sentences for each victim, but both sentences will run at the same time. Prosecutors arranged the plea deal last year, but Sanchez's attorney has not made any comments on the case.
