Odisha approves 211 water supply projects worth Rs 3,756 crore
The Indian government has approved 211 water supply projects for Odisha as part of the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0. The total funding for these projects is Rs 3,756.57 crore. This announcement was made by Minister of State Tokhan Sahu in the Rajya Sabha. Out of the 211 projects, 109 are specifically for AMRUT cities, costing Rs 1,678.01 crore. Odisha has already completed all 191 projects from the original AMRUT scheme, spending Rs 1,714.42 crore with support from the central government. These completed projects include 130 water supply initiatives and 13 sewerage management projects. Additionally, 137 projects aimed at rejuvenating water bodies have been approved under AMRUT 2.0. Under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0, launched in October 2021, Odisha received Rs 209.80 crore. The state has proposals worth Rs 417.69 crore approved, with a central share of Rs 157.73 crore. So far, Odisha has claimed Rs 70.95 crore from these funds. The minister highlighted that Odisha is making good progress in waste management, processing 96.47% of its daily waste. However, no drainage projects have been undertaken to manage urban flooding under the AMRUT scheme. The responsibility for urban flooding management mainly lies with state governments and local bodies, with the central government providing additional support.
