Odisha reopens investigation into Naba Das murder case

The Odisha Police Crime Branch has reopened the murder case of former minister Naba Kishore Das. This announcement was made by the state's Law Minister, Prithiviraj Harichandan, in the Assembly on Tuesday. A two-member team from the Crime Branch has begun investigating the case at Das's home in Jharsuguda. They are speaking with family members to gather more information. The Law Minister said the previous investigation didn’t explore all possibilities and that the Crime Branch will look into every angle of the case. Naba Das's family, especially his wife Minati Das, has requested a CBI investigation into the murder, arguing that a more thorough inquiry is needed. The Law Minister, however, believes the Crime Branch has the expertise to handle the case effectively. Das, who was serving as Health Minister, was shot and killed by a policeman on January 29, 2023. The Crime Branch had previously filed charges against the main suspect, Gopal Krishna Das, but some doubt that he acted alone. Investigators will be focusing on potential involvement from others in their renewed probe.
