Ofel intensifies into severe tropical storm, expected to strengthen further
Tropical cyclone Ofel has intensified into a severe tropical storm, according to the Philippine weather agency Pagasa. It is currently located 780 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes, moving west-northwest at 30 kilometers per hour. Ofel has maximum winds of 95 kilometers per hour, with gusts up to 115 kilometers per hour. It is expected to continue intensifying and may reach typhoon status by Wednesday. Pagasa warns that areas outside the predicted landfall may still experience hazards. Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 may be issued for parts of Cagayan Valley later today. A storm surge warning is also in effect for certain regions.
