Officer and student die in East Midnapore crash

An accident in East Midnapore has resulted in the deaths of a police officer and a student. Rabindranath Bari, 44, an assistant sub-inspector at Haldia police station, and his relative, Somnath Pramanik, 22, a homeopathy student, were involved in a crash late on Sunday. The accident happened on the Digha-Nandakumar 116B highway. According to police, their private car collided head-on with a truck as they descended from the Mograjpur rail overbridge. Both men were trapped inside the wrecked vehicle, and locals were unable to rescue them. Rabindranath had been attending a family event in Narghat and was driving back with Somnath. He lost control of the car, which was going too fast, leading to the deadly crash. Police arrived quickly and pulled the victims from the wreckage. Rabindranath was pronounced dead at Tamralipta District Hospital. Somnath, who was critically injured, was referred to a hospital in Kolkata but sadly died from his injuries on Monday morning.
