Ohio counties face high wildfire risk today
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a red flag warning for several counties in Central and Southeast Ohio today. This warning is in effect from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and indicates a high risk of wildfires. A red flag warning means that conditions are favorable for wildfires. Warm temperatures, very low humidity, and strong winds combine to increase fire danger. Today, south winds are expected to reach 15 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph. Humidity may drop to as low as 14%, and temperatures could rise to 79 degrees. Several counties in Ohio are under this warning. Residents in these areas are urged to avoid activities that could start a fire, such as tossing lit cigarettes. In addition, wildfires are impacting parts of Texas and Oklahoma. In Texas, critical fire weather conditions are present, with winds and low humidity affecting the region. Oklahoma has seen severe consequences from wildfires, including fatalities and significant property damage. To stay safe, the NWS and fire safety organizations advise taking precautions to prevent wildfires.
