A memorial ceremony will take place at MGM Northfield Park on Sunday to honor Hunter Myers, a 27-year-old harness racing driver from Ohio. Myers tragically died following a racing accident at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows in Pennsylvania. The ceremony, organized with the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association, will start at 5:50 p.m. After the ceremony, the first race at Northfield Park will be held in silence. In memory of Myers, the Iron Maiden Series at the track will be renamed the Hunter Myers Memorial Series. Myers was injured during a race on Wednesday and died the next day. In response to the accident, Hollywood Casino at The Meadows canceled racing events for the rest of the week to honor Myers and the racing community. Growing up in Williamsport, Ohio, Myers was inspired to join harness racing by his family, including his father, who was a trainer. His driving career began in 2014 when he was just 16 years old. That year, he won 19 out of 110 races at Ohio fairs and received the Peter Haughton Memorial Award. Over his nearly 11-year career, Myers secured 2,450 wins and earned more than $21.7 million in purses.
