Oklahoma State upsets SMU in NIT second round

Bryce Thompson scored 24 points to help Oklahoma State beat SMU 85-83 in the second round of the NIT on Sunday. This victory allows Oklahoma State to advance in the tournament. Oklahoma State, with a record of 18-17, was seeded fourth in their region. They will play the winner of the North Texas and Arkansas State game in the quarterfinals. Thompson shot 11 of 18 from the field and added two points from free throws. Abou Ousmane also had a strong performance, contributing 18 points, five rebounds, and four blocks. Brandon Newman scored 12 points, hitting four 3-pointers. For SMU, Kario Oquendo was the standout player, scoring 31 points. Chuck Harris added 17 points and 10 assists, while Samet Yigitoglu scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Oklahoma State trailed 41-40 at halftime but rallied in the second half. Ousmane scored 11 points after the break and made a key jumper with 33 seconds left to secure the win for the Cowboys.
