Old Indian video misrepresented as Bangladesh robbery fight
A misleading video has been circulating on social media, wrongly claiming it shows locals in Bangladesh fighting robbers. The video actually originates from Bihar, India, and was filmed in July 2024. Concerns about rising crime in Dhaka have heightened recently. Reports indicate that the number of robberies in the Bangladeshi capital has doubled over the past year. A Facebook post shared on February 8, 2025, featured the video and called for support against crime, gaining over 22,000 views. The clip shows two groups of people clashing with sticks. Investigations revealed that the video was uploaded to YouTube weeks before the fall of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in August 2024. It was filmed in a small village in Bihar during the Islamic month of Muharram. Further checks confirmed its location using Google Street View images. This isn't the first time misinformation related to crime in Bangladesh has spread, as previous claims involving another video have also been debunked.
