Oldham plans £70 million stadium redevelopment project
Oldham, a club in the National League, is planning a major redevelopment of its Boundary Park stadium. The project is part of a £70 million initiative to create a “Little Wembley.” The current stadium seats 13,186 fans and will receive significant upgrades. The plans include a sports campus, a new 3,000-seat netball stadium, and a modern 3G pitch. Additionally, there will be a cricket pitch and an area designed to resemble Wembley Way. Local officials are collaborating on this project, named SportsTown, which aims to provide training and apprenticeship opportunities for young people. The council has already invested £5 million from a £20 million fund provided by the government for community regeneration. Oldham's chairman, Frank Rothwell, expressed the importance of this development. He believes it will create a lasting legacy and promote opportunities for the youth in Oldham. Arooj Shad, the council leader, emphasized the significance of sports in the region. She stated that SportsTown will not only focus on athletics but will also generate investment and jobs for the community. The goal is to create facilities that will benefit future generations.
