Ontario faces winter-like weather this weekend
Spring has officially begun, but winter conditions are returning to Ontario this weekend. Snow is expected, along with cold temperatures, making travel conditions difficult. After arriving on Thursday, spring's typical unpredictable weather is making an appearance. Winter-like temperatures will remain this weekend, with more snowfall expected from Sunday into Monday. These colder temperatures are expected to last until early April. In southern Ontario, snowfall will likely be light, with 5 to 10 centimeters possible. Some areas may see more snow, especially in northwestern Ontario, where 15 to 20 centimeters could fall. Travelers are advised to check road conditions and weather alerts before heading out. A cold air mass is hitting northern Ontario, where temperatures have already dropped to around -30 Celsius. This cold is moving to northeastern Ontario, bringing messy weather due to a low-pressure system. The Greater Toronto Area can expect wet snow starting Sunday night and continuing into Monday morning. Areas north of the QEW and along major highways will experience the heaviest snowfall overnight. Snow amounts will vary but could reach up to 5 cm in some areas. Eastern Ontario could see 3 to 10 cm as the system moves east, with cottage country facing potentially heavier snowfall. For the remainder of March, cold temperatures will stay in the forecast. A short warm-up may happen with incoming weather systems, but the potential for cold waves remains. Weather patterns will be monitored closely, especially as April approaches for possible warmer days after April 5.
