Ontario woman avoids assault charge over water gun incident
An Ontario woman, Wendy Washik, has agreed to a peace bond after she sprayed her neighbor with a water gun. The incident happened last September in Simcoe. Washik, 58, previously faced an assault charge, which has now been dropped. As part of the peace bond, Washik must follow certain conditions for nine months. This includes keeping away from her neighbor, Sheehan Rochester, 49, and not contacting him or going on his property. If she breaks the terms, she could face new charges. It is important to note that entering a peace bond is not an admission of guilt. Rochester claimed that the water gun incident was part of a long history of racial harassment he faced from some neighbors, including Washik. He described feeling targeted and had reported issues to the police multiple times over the years. In a statement, Washik said the incident was not serious. She described having a playful water fight with a child and claimed she accidentally sprayed Rochester while he was mowing his lawn. However, security footage reportedly shows a different sequence of events, suggesting more intentional behavior. Rochester said he has had ongoing issues with neighbors and the water gun incident escalated his feelings of being harassed. He mentioned that the situation had been troubling for him and his family. Washik, meanwhile, has raised over $7,000 for her legal expenses since the incident.
