OpenAI develops Orion, a new large language model with enhanced reasoning capabilities

OpenAI is developing a new large language model called Orion, also known as GPT-5. Reports suggest it may be ready for pre-training by December 2024, but a company spokesperson denied a commercial release timeline. Unlike previous models, Orion may initially be available only to OpenAI partners like Microsoft, rather than the general public. It is expected to have improved reasoning capabilities and a larger knowledge base compared to GPT-4o. GPT-5 is anticipated to be multimodal, handling text, audio, and images. It could have over 1.5 trillion parameters, making it one of the largest AI models. OpenAI aims to address safety concerns with this new model.
