OpenAI, Meta seek AI partnerships with Reliance in India

OpenAI and Meta Platforms are in talks with Reliance Industries for potential AI partnerships in India. The discussions aim to expand AI offerings in the country. According to a technology news site, OpenAI and Reliance Jio are considering a partnership to distribute ChatGPT. The idea is to make the AI tool more accessible to users. Additionally, OpenAI is reportedly considering lowering the subscription price from $20 a month to several dollars. However, it is unclear if this price reduction was part of the discussions with Reliance. Reliance is also interested in selling OpenAI's models to its enterprise customers using an application programming interface (API). Furthermore, there are discussions about hosting OpenAI's models locally. This plan would help keep customer data within India, addressing privacy concerns. In particular, Reliance is looking to utilize a new three-gigawatt data center for these operations. This center, planned for Jamnagar in Gujarat, is expected to be the largest data center in the world. Neither Meta nor OpenAI responded to requests for comments about the reports. Reliance Industries is one of India's biggest companies, involved in various sectors like petrochemicals, telecommunications, and green energy.
