Oracle to supply Singapore military with cloud, AI services
Oracle is partnering with Singapore's military to provide cloud computing and artificial intelligence services. This will be the company’s first deal of this kind in Southeast Asia. The agreement focuses on creating an "air-gapped" cloud infrastructure. This means that the system will be isolated from the internet and only connect to classified networks through secure devices. This approach aims to enhance security for Singapore’s armed forces and defense ministry. Oracle's technology will include AI tools capable of analyzing video streams. This could help identify faces, license plates, and vehicle details. Rand Waldron, Oracle’s Global Defense Chief Technology Officer, emphasized the importance of bringing these advanced AI tools into secure environments. The specifics of the financial deal were not disclosed. However, Oracle is increasing its presence in Southeast Asia, having recently announced plans to invest over $6.5 billion to develop a cloud region in Malaysia.
