The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, due to expected thunderstorms, lightning, and moderate rain on March 22. This alert follows heavy rainfall that has caused waterlogging in several areas, including Thoothukudi. Residents in Thoothukudi have experienced significant disruptions as streets became submerged. The IMD had earlier issued a yellow alert for areas in Tamil Nadu, predicting continued rainfall throughout the day. The weather forecast warns of isolated to scattered light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds in the region. In addition to Tamil Nadu, parts of Telangana and Odisha are also under orange and yellow alerts. In Telangana, there is a risk of thunderstorms, lightning, and hailstorms until the morning of March 24. Similarly, parts of Odisha are expected to see thunderstorms and strong winds, with rain also likely. Furthermore, thunderstorms are anticipated in West Bengal due to favorable weather patterns. The IMD is monitoring conditions as these weather events could impact various regions in the coming days.
