Orban invites Netanyahu to Hungary despite ICC arrest warrant
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced he would invite Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Hungary, disregarding an International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant against him. Orban stated the warrant would not be enforced in Hungary. This stance contrasts with several European leaders, including Ireland's Prime Minister Simon Harris, who affirmed they would respect the ICC's decision and arrest Netanyahu if he visited. Other countries, like the Netherlands and Spain, also pledged to uphold their legal obligations regarding the ICC. The ICC issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and others for alleged war crimes in the Gaza conflict. Orban's comments reflect Hungary's strong support for Israel, differing from the broader EU position, which emphasizes adherence to international law.
