Orissa High Court halts recruitment for sepoys, constables
The Orissa High Court has temporarily halted the appointment process for 1,360 sepoy and constable positions after the state government challenged a previous ruling. This ruling allowed a six-year age relaxation for candidates over the age limit. The court's decision came after a preliminary hearing on the government's appeal against a single judge's order from December 2024. The judge had directed the State Selection Board to amend the recruitment advertisement to include the age relaxation. The age limit was raised in 2022 to help candidates affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the recent recruitment process did not apply this change, prompting the single judge's intervention. The court will review the case again on March 20.
