Osberg campaigns in Willmar for Minnesota's 7th District

Erik Osberg kicked off his campaign for Minnesota's 7th District with a visit to Spurs Bar and Grill in Willmar. The event drew about 48 people, marking Osberg's first outing in the city since announcing his candidacy on March 11. He will face off against Republican incumbent Rep. Michelle Fischbach in the 2026 general election. During the gathering, attendees had the opportunity to ask questions and share their views on various issues. Osberg emphasized his mission to reshape the Democratic narrative in rural areas. "Victory is one of our goals, but we've got 13 other goals," he said, highlighting a focus on the process of campaigning rather than just the election results. Osberg called for more personal dialogue instead of relying heavily on social media. He aims to connect with marginalized communities and engage young people. He believes finding common ground is vital, stating, "We might have to put aside… things that divide us for a moment to say this is more important." Osberg's decision to run stems from a desire to change the political landscape in rural Minnesota. He wants to redefine what it means to be a Democrat in a region where Fischbach won 70.4% of the vote in the last election. "I wanted to stand up and announce to the world I'm a Democrat and I live in rural Minnesota," he said, challenging stereotypes about the party in that area.
