Oswego softball wins season opener 18-6
Oswego's softball team kicked off their season with a strong performance against Batavia, winning 18-6 on March 17, 2025. Junior pitcher Jaelynn Anthony, who is headed to Purdue University, had an impressive game. She pitched two scoreless innings and also hit a two-run homer in her first at-bat of the season. The weather was challenging, with strong winds affecting play. Anthony described the conditions as "horrible." Despite this, she excelled on the mound and at the plate. Her home run helped the team to a three-run first inning. Oswego's co-coach, Annie Scaramuzzi, praised Anthony's performance, noting that the ball "got out fast." Anthony showed her versatility by contributing further with an infield single and an RBI groundout later in the game. Senior outfielder Natalie Muellner also had a strong game with a double and a homer, driving in three runs. Oswego's team, which includes other college-bound players, appears poised for a successful season. Scaramucci emphasized the importance of clean defense and solid hitting, and felt the team executed that well. Anthony, who had a stellar previous season, shared her excitement about committing to Purdue early. She expressed her desire to play in the Big Ten and has been working hard on her pitching skills. This commitment followed her connection with Purdue’s staff, led by new head coach Magali Frezzotti. As the season unfolds, Anthony's growth and contributions will be key for Oswego's hopes for another deep playoff run.
