Outdated footage falsely linked to recent Pakistan attack
Footage of a train explosion is being misrepresented as part of a recent militant attack in Pakistan. The video circulating on social media was actually filmed in 2022 and shows a different assault on the army. In mid-March 2025, militants attacked the Jaffar Express train in Balochistan, taking up to 450 passengers hostage. The siege lasted about 30 hours and resulted in 27 off-duty soldiers being shot. The Pakistan army managed to free more than 340 of those held the following day. Despite the seriousness of the recent attack, a video claiming to show it has gained attention online. The clip features a train explosion but dates back to an incident involving the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) two years ago. Research confirms that the video was shared in April 2022, where it depicted an IED attack on a train carrying Pakistani paramilitary forces near Sibi, Balochistan. The BLA, a separatist group, has increasingly targeted military and security forces in the region, claiming outside forces exploit their resources. The 2022 incident resulted in injuries, and local reports noted the explosion caused train derailments. Authentic details about the video show the BLA logo on it, confirming its origin as a separate attack, not related to the recent hijacking incident.
