More than 2,400 people, including 11 pregnant women, are trapped at the Thai-Myanmar border after being rescued from scam operations in Myanmar. They are in dire need of medical care, according to a civil society group. The pregnant women are living in poor conditions. They lack adequate healthcare and sufficient food, said Jay Kritiya from the Citizens Network for Human Trafficking Victims. He mentioned that one woman recently had a miscarriage. Thailand is actively working to shut down scam centers along its borders. These centers are part of a large fraud network across Southeast Asia that makes billions of dollars, often using trafficked individuals. Thailand is coordinating the repatriation of thousands of people, many of whom are from China. As of now, over 2,400 individuals are still waiting at the border to return home. A visit to the camp housing the pregnant women revealed that it is managed by the Democratic Karen Benevolent Army, which is trying to help but lacks enough resources. The Citizens Network has asked Thai authorities to move those in need of medical care to a hospital in Tak province, Thailand. In response, Thailand's human rights commission has communicated this request to the relevant officials. Thailand’s top police general stated this week that an estimated 100,000 people are still working in scam centers in the region. Early investigations suggest that many of the individuals rescued had entered these operations voluntarily.
