Over 300 climate conference attendees rescued in Big Bear
Over 300 attendees at a climate conference were rescued on March 13 after a heavy snowstorm left them stranded at YMCA Camp Whittle near Big Bear. Firefighters made multiple trips using a snow cat to assist those unable to reach waiting buses. Initially, buses sent to pick up the group became stuck in the snow. Firefighters opened their station to provide warmth and food as they coordinated the rescue. Many attendees were unprepared for the severe weather conditions. No injuries were reported during the rescue, but officials highlighted the need for winter preparedness in the San Bernardino Mountains. They advised drivers to use snow chains and carry supplies when traveling in snowy conditions.
