Over 8,500 USPS employees accept retirement incentive
More than 8,500 U.S. Postal Service employees have accepted an early retirement incentive, including 50 in New Hampshire. This move is part of the agency's budget strategy in collaboration with the Department of Government Efficiency. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy stated that the program aims to reduce 10,000 jobs in the next 30 days. However, the American Postal Workers Union clarified that this number is an estimate, and those who declined the offer will not face layoffs. The union is advocating for legislative support to maintain USPS as an independent federal entity. They expressed concerns about employee retention and the impact of retirements on staffing in local offices.
