The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) in Singapore seized over $200,000 worth of electronic vaporisers in two separate cases on February 28 and March 1. Almost 10,000 e-vaporisers were confiscated, and three men are helping with the investigations. In the first case on February 28, HSA found 25 cartons with about 5,000 e-vaporisers in a warehouse in Sungei Kadut. The value of this shipment was around $110,000. Two men, ages 32 and 31, were caught while attempting to collect the e-vaporisers. The second case occurred on March 1 at Tuas Checkpoint. ICA officers discovered around 4,800 e-vaporisers hidden in a lorry’s cargo. This shipment was valued at approximately $105,000. The driver, a 24-year-old man, is also assisting with the investigation. Vaping has been illegal in Singapore since February 2018, which includes possession and sale of e-vaporisers. Authorities remind the public that importing or distributing these products is a punishable offense. First-time offenders can face fines up to $10,000 or six months in jail, while repeat offenders may be fined up to $20,000 and jailed for up to 12 months. The HSA encourages anyone with information on illegal vaping activities to reach out to them during weekdays.
