Four bridges in North Sikkim have collapsed or been severely damaged due to overloaded trucks in the past two months, according to the Border Roads Organisation. This includes a 200-foot bridge that collapsed on January 4 and another on February 11. The damage has disrupted connectivity in the region. Following the collapse of a key bridge, the Phidang bridge also suffered severe damage on March 15, cutting off access to North Sikkim again. Project Swastik is working to repair the Phidang bridge quickly. They have urged local authorities to enforce restrictions on heavy vehicle movement to prevent further damage and maintain infrastructure.
