Owaisi criticizes Maharashtra government for Nagpur violence
Hyderabad politician Asaduddin Owaisi has criticized the Maharashtra government for recent communal violence in Nagpur. He accused local ministers of making comments that incited the unrest. Owaisi, who leads the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, spoke during a public event for Ramzan. He expressed concern over the government's failure to prevent these violent incidents. Owaisi took aim at Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and his team. He questioned why immediate action was not taken after a complaint regarding the burning of Quranic verses on cloth. He stated, “This is an intelligence failure,” pointing out that trouble erupted after the complaint went unaddressed. He criticized the police for granting bail to those involved in the violence. The politician also addressed comments made about historical figures, suggesting that such discussions were meant to divide rather than unite people. He urged the government to focus on pressing issues like economic struggles, unemployment, and territorial threats from China instead of fostering division. Owaisi raised alarms about changes to the Waqf Act. He claimed these changes aim to control Waqf properties and eliminate democratic processes within Waqf boards. He urged the community to remain united against these proposed amendments, which he says could be introduced in Parliament soon. He called for solidarity among people to resist attempts at division.
