Oxfordshire will host the National Leakage Research and Test Centre (NLRTC) to address water leaks. The facility will simulate an underground water network, allowing for testing of new technologies to reduce leakage. The NLRTC will feature a 5km-long buried water pipeline and a smaller test rig. It will be operated by HR Wallingford and Northumbrian Water, with initial funding from the Ofwat Innovation Fund. Construction is expected to begin later this year and take about nine months. The centre will support water companies and innovators in developing solutions to the UK's water leakage problem.
