PAC questions PCB chairman over PSL-8 financial discrepancies
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in Pakistan has summoned the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi. This is in relation to a failure to distribute Rs2 billion for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 8. During a recent meeting led by Chairman Junaid Akbar Khan, the PAC discussed an audit report concerning this missing distribution. Audit authorities indicated that the amount was not shared between the PCB and the league's franchises. The PCB Chairman was unable to attend the meeting due to security incidents in Quetta and Balochistan, as mentioned by the Secretary Cabinet. Committee member Sanaullah Mastikhel pointed out that the PCB should not be under the cabinet's control in the caretaker setup. Another member, Syed Naveed Qamar, insisted that without the PCB chairman, they could not properly examine the audit report. Additionally, the PAC addressed expenses related to the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. Reports suggested Rs29 billion was spent on the tournament, with only around Rs1.7 billion in income. The PCB’s Chief Finance Officer refuted these claims, stating that the budget was $70 million, as it is an ICC event. The PAC also inquired about the funding used for the renovation of stadiums and requested further details on expenses from the Champions Trophy. The PCB Chairman is expected to present this information in the next meeting.
