PacificLight Power plans hydrogen-ready gas plant in Singapore
PacificLight Power has received approval from the Singapore government to build a hydrogen-ready gas power plant on Jurong Island. This facility will generate at least 600 megawatts of power starting in January 2029, supporting Singapore's decarbonization goals. The new plant will initially use at least 30% hydrogen and aims for 100% hydrogen use in the future. It will also include a large-scale battery energy storage system and has the potential for carbon capture technology. In addition to this project, PacificLight is developing a 100 megawatt Fast Start power unit, expected to be operational by mid-2025. Singapore plans to have at least nine hydrogen-compatible power plants by 2030 to meet rising electricity demand and climate targets.
