Pagasa attributes recent typhoons in Northern Luzon to high-pressure ridge north of Philippines

inquirer.net

A weather specialist from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) explained that a high-pressure ridge north of the Philippines is causing recent typhoons to hit Northern Luzon. Severe Tropical Kristine, Typhoon Marce, and Typhoon Nika have all made landfall in the region. Typhoon Ofel is expected to make landfall in Isabela or Cagayan on Thursday. Another tropical storm, Man-yi, is projected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility and also make landfall in Luzon this weekend. Pagasa noted that the number of tropical cyclones this November has exceeded their forecast. They initially expected one to two cyclones but are now tracking four, including the upcoming Pepito. In December, cyclones are expected to move southward due to the northeast monsoon.
