Pakistan and US discuss visa policy clarifications
Pakistan and the United States held important talks on consular matters on March 19, 2025. The meeting took place in Islamabad, led by Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. Officials from both countries discussed ongoing cooperation in various areas, particularly regarding visas. There are ongoing changes in U.S. immigration policies under President Donald Trump's administration. These changes are influencing visa processes and tourism. The recent talks followed another meeting just a week earlier, where both countries focused on strengthening their bilateral relationship. The Foreign Office indicated that visa issues for Pakistanis were a major topic of discussion during this meeting. The presence of the interior secretary suggested that the conversation was serious. Officials have noted that the U.S. has started deporting undocumented Pakistanis from within the country. The Foreign Office described these deportations as a continuous process. Reports emerged that Pakistan might face visa restrictions, but the U.S. State Department denied these claims. It clarified that there is no travel ban list currently in place for foreigners, including Pakistanis. Despite concerns, both sides are keen on improving economic trade and security cooperation moving forward.
